Jefferson Township Community Chorus

Formed in April of 2001 by the Jefferson Arts Committee, The Jefferson Township Community Chorus has attracted many township adults, Jefferson Township High School students and alumni to its ranks over the years.  The Chorus provides an opportunity to individuals who love to sing, are looking for a venue to sing with others, enjoy the challenge of learning new musical arrangements, and want to entertain the public.  Many members belong to church choirs and just want to branch out to more secular music.  Those who enjoy singing a variety of musical styles are always welcome to join; and the Chorus is open to high school students through adults; and tenors, basses, sopranos, and altos are welcome.  No audition or previous singing experience is required.
Originally directed by Richard Barrieres, who, at the time, was the Band Director at the Jefferson Township Middle School, the Chorus is now directed by Jefferson Township resident Robin VanSchaick; and Margaret Brandell, also a Jefferson Township resident, is the group’s Assistant Director and Accompanist.  Both talented women are graduates of Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ.

The Chorus rehearses 10 months out of the year from 7:30 – 9:00 PM in the Music Room at the Jefferson Township Middle School on Tuesdays unless school is closed for any reason.  Annual dues of $25 per person, $40 per couple, or $10 per student are collected in order to help cover the salaries of the Director and Assistant Director and the high cost of purchasing quality copyrighted music.

The Chorus presents spring and winter concerts and performs at the annual Jefferson Township Day celebration, Christmas In the Village event, and other special events by invitation. Through the years they have sung traditional folk songs, Broadway show tunes, sacred music, ethnic tunes, popular songs, and classical music.

Anyone interested in joining the Chorus can contact Margaret Brandell at 973-697-6659 for more information or e-mail   Regular mail can also be sent to The Jefferson Community Chorus, c/o The Jefferson Arts Committee, PO Box 2604, Oak Ridge, NJ 07438.  Information is also available at and performances are listed at under “Events.”
